Ice Walker

The water I stand upon
Is a field of cracked ice.
Tenuous steps forward
Reach, reach, reach
Before I drown
Or will I make it
To the banks of the pond
Safe, upon earth and soil
To reach, reach, reach
I must tentatively step
One more day of the perilous journey
And it’s truly mine alone.

The question is such.
When I emerge on the other end
Shall I be soaked
Dripping of pond water?
Shall I emerge as a
Surety, reborn
To reach anyway
Spirit and courage
Essentials for survival.
Reach, reach, reach
Don’t sink.
